Music Programs For Seniors
Music is therapeutic for seniors and can improve both health and well-being. Our Singing with Seniors music program is an on-location service offered to retirement residences in the Barrie area.
Independent seniors may choose private lessons at Patience Piano’s studio. Seniors are also welcome to attend Kindermusik classes and to enjoy interacting with young children.
We offer many ways seniors can be engaged in the love of music.

Retirement Residence Music
In our Musical Memories Singalongs we provide large-print, easy-to-follow lyrics in a variety of year-round themes: Fabulous Forties, Remembering the Fifties, Great Songs of the Sixties, Inspirational Collection, etc. We also offer seasonal themes for St. Patrick’s Day, Canada Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas, and others. Those not wanting to sing are welcome to just listen. Piano dining music is another retirement residence option. Engage your residents in the love of music.
Studies have shown that music promotes better health through the enjoyment of listening, dancing and singing. Music also triggers long forgotten memories and enables residents to engage and reach a higher level of functioning.
Huronia Recorder Consort
COVID-19: due to restrictions on group wind instrument use during the pandemic this program has ended. Please consider private lessons as a possible alternative.
Since 2002 Lynn has been directing and participating in an amateur adult recorder ensemble. The group not only plays a variety of recorders (sopranino to bass), but other instruments that complement their sound: strings, flute, harmonica, percussion, etc. Their long-time accompanist and arranger, Henry Martinen is no longer able to participate, but there’s lots of his music yet to be played, as well as published music by others.
They meet regularly, rehearse a variety of music (classical and contemporary) and have some laughs. On occasion, they play at local schools, retirement homes, or anywhere else they’re given the opportunity.
If you play the recorder or another instrument that you think would suit the group, please contact them. There’s no charge for participating. Private recorder lessons are available for those who’d like to learn.
